Millsaps Immediate Retirement

Monster Energy Knich Yamaha rider Davi Millsaps' letter of retirement has just been released in which he states "After 14 years as a professional Supercross and Motocross racer, today, I announce my retirement from racing." Millsaps made the decision after suffering from a major concussion during the pre-season, which sent him straight to the ICU.

“I definitely wanted to go out on my own terms, but my neurologist wouldn’t clear me to ride, so I was essentially forced to call it quits after 27 years of racing. I’m officially retiring today, but I’ll still be around the sport I love.”

Millsaps is set to do a victory lap, to celebrate his fruitful career, over the 14 years he has been professionally racing. It will take place during the Atlanta round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, on the 3rd of March. Millsaps had a few words to share about making this his final location and appearance before he puts his helmet down. “Atlanta is where I won my very first 450SX main event and I’m the only Georgian to ever win a 450SX race in Georgia, so it’s fitting for me to conclude my racing career in Atlanta. Also, my family and friends will be able to be there to see me do my lap. It’s definitely going to be emotional, but it’s the right thing for me to do.” Holding a special place in his career and his heart, it is only fitting that he makes Atlanta his last hurrah.

Millsaps was a two-time 450sx championship runner-up for both 2012 and 2013. He managed to claim 5 wins and 35 podium finishes in the premier class during his career. Not to mention he was the 2006 250SX East Champion, 2014 Monster Energy Cup winner and the 2016 Canadian supercross championship winner.

Millsaps closed out his announcement with "I’m not going to lie, I will miss it. This sport has been so good to me, and I’m fortunate that I can walk away looking forward to the future with my family. I’ve been so lucky to have had this experience as a pro athlete, and I will cherish each and every moment of it. I truly appreciate all the support over the years. Thank you, everyone!"
